Normally, pumps are controlled by a 2 level mechanical alternator.   The alternator will alternate pump operation, as well as provide simultaneous operation of both pumps, in the event of peak demand.  A standby float may be provided to energize both pump and sound an alarm in the event of failure of the alternator
